The Urban Adventure Guide

The fear of missing out (FOMO) is a very real thing for many people I know. And while the feeling is legitimate, I struggle to relate. Sure, there's a time and a place for soaking up some far off beach or a grand traverse, but if you're anything like me, those are the highlights. A real adventurer seeks out daily opportunities to live boldly and challenge the status quo. A real adventurer pushes the envelope between grocery runs, meetings, family dinners and other day-to-day norms. So whether you're camping out of the back of your car on a perpetual road trip or just reading this before your nightly commute from the office, I challenge you to stop wishing and start doing.

There's an adventure in every cul-de-sac. You just have to close Instagram and look around.

Urban Adventure Ideas

  • Ride something weird to the local bar/restaurant
  • Scale the highest point you can spot out the nearest window

  • Make a bonfire
  • Sleep in your backyard
  • Catch a bug or a snake and then release it
  • Host a picnic in a park
  • Find a source of fresh water, filter it and enjoy a cool drink
  • Jump off of a swing
  • Climb a tree
  • Seek out a stranger to play frisbee with
  • Run the stairs of a multi-story building until failure
  • Shoot a sunrise timelapse
  • Shoot a sunset timelapse
  • Swim an open body of water
  • Hop a fence
  • Grab a flashlight and explore an empty building at night
  • Stay awake until you've counted three shooting stars
  • Play your favorite song on your phone and dance with someone
  • Clean out old clothes in your closet and hand them out to people in need
  • Do go out in the rain
  • Write letters of encouragement and hide them around the neighborhood
  • Park your car somewhere with a view and listen to an audiobook
  • Drink a bottle of wine and then fill it back up with trash that litters your community
  • Make fresh coffee on top of a mountain
  • Wash a stranger's car without getting caught
  • Construct a homemade gift and find the perfect person to give it to

If you're tired of the same old same old, shake it up. You only miss out if you sit out.
